Ok in an effort to save money and to just be smarter with money in general, I have been trying to buy less of what I want, and more of what me and my family needs. That means steering clear of the dirt cheap clearance clothes racks that seems to be everywhere....like really do I need yet another cute flowered summer skirt even though it's marked down to 10 bucks....that 10 bucks could go towards my grocery bill or something I NEED. This is really hard because I work in downtown Philadelphia and shopping is all around, I mean that's what people who work downtown do on their lunch break they shop and I have to stay off Ebay and all my other little online discount shops!
Well I have found a great way to get my shopping fix, SCHOOL SUPPLIES! Oh not just for Gavin, I am talking all kinds of school supplies in large quanities and at dirt cheap special prices! It's sooo exciting loose leaf paper for 9 cents for a pack of 150 sheets (wide ruled and college ruled!), Boxes of 24 Crayola crayons at 25 cents each, markers rulers, It's crazy. I work near a Staples Office Supply Store and I stalk their weekly specials DAILY. Yes daily because they only allow you to buy 5 packs of the 9 cent paper at a time.....let's just say I tried to go twice a day. Did I mention that Staples was also giving out 2 tubes of Elmer's school glue for free when you made a purchase? Even if it was just 45 cents worth of paper! Those were just the sales from this week. I have been at it for a couple of weeks now.
I haven't even hit Walmart and Target for school suppies yet, but there's a K Mart close to my job so I have been hitting up their sales as well. I know you're thinking dang you only have 1 kid and he's in pre school! But it's all justifiable. I'll be donating to a school supply drive and supply the kids in my life with supplies and it fills my shopping urge. It's ok to spend money when it's for a good cause right!?
I am always so quick to complain about how rude people are. I live in a busy city and commute to work by subway everyday so you can imagine that I run into a lot of rushing, rude people every morning. It is funny because it seems that there is always conversation amongst my coworkers about the rudeness we encounter on our commute. Well today I had the nicest encounter. I was preparing my coffee at a local coffee place where you prepare your own cup, when a woman dropped the pitcher of creamer and it splatters all over me!
To my surprise she is apologizing like crazy! Anyway she was just so nice and I could tell she felt badly I just said “it’s ok don’t worry about it, these things happen.” She was surprised by my reaction as well! It really wasn’t too bad and I just started mopping myself off and I was ok. She offers to pay for my coffee and I tell her it’s not necessary even after she insists on it. Well when I get to the counter to pay there she is and she says to the cashier, “we’re together” and she pays for my cup anyway.
It thought that was just sooo nice! Some of you are probably saying, that was the least she could do, but it is sad because that kind of thing does not happen! I would have been less surprised if she would have laughed it off and or acted like she didn’t even splatter me and went on about her business. It’s really sad that I feel the need to share that a person actually showed a little bit of common courtesy and apologized and even brought me a coffee (a large coffee at that!). I was going to skip the coffee today, but I am glad I didn’t, this morning gave me a little faith in humankind, even though I was smelling like milk by the time I got to my office.
I know it’s been a long time and no one is probably even reading this. Thanks to everyone who sent me e-mail wondering where I was, that was sweet. I just sort of took a break for a while. I needed to sort through some things and work a little on my time management. I figured it is time to get back in the blogging groove, get some posts up, find out what everyone out there I the world wide web has been up to.
Mr. Gavin is 3 ½ and extra special, everyday is something new. He never ceases to amaze me. He is really enjoying the summer. So far we have been to a few , swimming, the Adventure Aquarium, The Academy of Natural Sciences and Sesame Place (I think he may have considered Sesame Place the best day in his whole life!) Just yesterday we got him his very first library card. So we have had a very busy summer. All the trips have been local trips, and I think that is the way it is going to be this summer. We still have to hit the zoo the beach (that's this weekend) and a few other local spots.
.
Well the weather (and my mood) have improved a whole lot since my last post. I am so happy about the change of seasons. Last week I did some spring cleaning and we have been spending almost every evening outdoors.
Not much else going on in this neck of the woods. Just thought I would drop in and post, even though I don't have much to post about.
I had to turn my heat on tonight! It's May 21st and I had to turn my heat on. It has been raining like every other day in this neck of the woods and to be honest with you it is really REALLY getting depressing! I really feel a difference in my mood. I don't want to get up in the morning, I want to climb in bed as soon as I get home, I am easily agitated. I am just not myself. Spring is usually my favorite time of year, but it is hard to get excited about it when the sun refuses to shine. It's like I have this weird extended PMS. Is this what they call seasonal depression?
